About Us
Our Story
Mike Roman and The Tellstars have been one of the most popular and enduring groups in the Chicago land area. The band’s multicultural appeal has contributed to their success and has made the group’s longevity possible. Their unique approach and interpretation of Latin Rock music has been the band’s trademark along with their original compositions and versatile arrangements featured in the group’s recordings and live performances.
The group’s musical ability to duplicate and interpret the sound of Santana began even before Mike Roman jammed with super rock star Carlos Santana and his original band in the San Francisco Bay area.
Mike Roman and The Tellstars are the only Latin Rock group in the Midwest that has had the honor to perform on stage, and record, with Santana's original percussion section and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Jose “Chepito” Areas & Michael Shrieve. They are also the only group in the Midwest which has backed the legendary guitarist Jose Feliciano in concert and they are also the band from which Carlos Santana has sampled a chant arrangement to perform in their concert tours.

Music has long been considered a major force for American social change, righting the wrongs of our society. Musicians use it to express themselves emotionally, spiritually and politically especially during challenging times for an inescapable reality relieved only by the power of music.
Dancing With The Tellstars
Mike Roman & The Tellstars have been the opening act for many national & international recording groups, including Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Jimi Hendrix's drummer and lead vocalist the late and phenomenal Buddy Miles.
Mike Roman & The Tellstars have performed at many popular theaters, concert venues, boat cruises, summer festivals and Chicago's Grant Park's Petrillo Music Band shell.
Mike Roman & The Tellstars, with their authentic sounds of Santana along with their own compositions from their CD "Cha Cha Time!" have evolved into a cohesive and artistically polished ensemble. They remain true to their Latin Rock roots while fusing Jazz with surf sounds and salsa rhythms and an exotic musical cocktail that explodes in an alchemy of Latin Fire in all of their live performances.
